Should I apply EA or RD?
So, my current stats are:
GPA: 3.8
SAT: 1860
RANK: Top 10%

Now that you know more about me, please help me with my dilemma. I plan on applying to Univeristy of Michigan - Ann Arbor but my current stats just might not cut it. I am taking SAT properly (last time I did not have time to prepare) this November and two SAT IIs in December. Should I apply to UMich with my current stats or wait to take the tests and then apply through Regular Decision?
Thanks!

- anonymous If possible, can you also recommend which schools from my list in the profile, if any, I should apply to as an EA applicant? {{ 1444627633800+1-1 | date : 'short' }}

- Eric Allen expert Good question. I will let one of our admissions experts chime in. @Savena Wright or @Jennie Rothman what do you think? {{ 1444679785098+1-1 | date : 'short' }}

- Savena Wright expert You've asked some good questions! Here are a few things to consider: Based on your academic standing right now, your SAT score is an oulier. Ideally, you'd like for the score to be commensurate with your GPA and rank as well as in line with the upper end SAT score of the typically admitted Michigan student, which would put your scores for the Math and CR sections at about 700 each. Based on the composite score you indicated above, this doesn't seem to be the case. -New York is one of the more competitive regions of the country when it comes to the number of qualified applicants, which is going to make admission even more challenging for you. Michigan, as a large, premier public university is going to rely heavily on academic statistics, including the SAT score, as they receive tens of thousands of applications each year. So obviously the stronger your score the better. -If you have diligently prepared for this second sitting of the SAT, and this often means taking a prep course, reviewing problems, AND taking practice tests that reflect a SIGNIFICANT increase in your score, then you may want to hold off on applying until you have the results of the second test. Many students believe that by merely reviewing a prep book and doing a couple of practice problems that their score will somehow miraculously improve, and this often isn't the case. -How popular of a school choice is Michigan at your high school? Colleges like to diversify the pool from which they admit students. So if Michigan is a popular choice, you want to make sure you present the most competitive profile possible. If, however, very few students typically apply to Michigan from your high school, this becomes less of an issue. Best of luck! Savena {{ 1444680461559+1-1 | date : 'short' }} my anonymous likes this

- Savena Wright expert Regarding your EA question, many of the schools on your list offer ED programs, which are binding. In general, I would say that most of the schools that you have listed are quite competitive, so holding off until you have an SAT score that is more in line with the statistics of students who are typically admitted is probably in your best interest. {{ 1444680908679+1-1 | date : 'short' }} my Eric Allen , anonymous like this
