How time demanding is med school?
How much of a time commitment is med school on a daily basis? Will I be able to maintain a job while in medical school?
- Gayle Squires expert Hi Sierra. Medical school is a truly full-time endeavor. During the first two years, you'll be in the classroom about 35-40 hours per week, and expected to spend many hours each night and a good portion of the weekend studying. That said, you might be able to work in a library that would allow you to do some studying while working; I babysat quite a bit because it was flexible and I could study after the kids went to sleep. During the second year, you'll be in the hospital with a physician-style schedule, including overnight calls and a regular part-time job will be very difficult to maintain.
