anonymous Application season hi! I know it varies a little bit from school to school, but I was wondering what the components of an MBA application are? #MBA {{ 1469199738625+1-1 | date : 'short' }} my Sunny Ng likes this mba freeconsultation Share Facebook Twitter LinkedIn
Joe El Rady expert Hi Aaron, MBA applications contain six main components. First, the "data form" or written application. This, as you would expect, contains the main demographic fields you need to fill out in order to apply (Name, DOB, SSN, Work History, Address, job positions, salaries, name of undergraduate institution etc etc...). The data form also includes short answer questions such as: "briefly describe your career aspirations". Some data forms also contain very short answer mini-essays, such as: "where is your favorite place in the world?" Second, you have "Letters of Reference": you must choose 2-3 recommenders to submit references on your behalf. These references often take the form of short answer questions. Further, some schools require recommenders to rate your performance on grid or scale. Most schools require that your current immediate supervisor submit a recommendation. Third, you must submit (upload) a resume. Fourth, you must submit (upload) your academic records (transcripts) as well as your GMAT scores. Fifth, you must answer 1-5 essay questions. This is generally the most important of the application. While other factors (such as low grades) can keep you out or get you rejected, only essays can get you admitted. Essays must prove to the admissions committees that you are a self-aware, introspective, leader who possesses the qualities of great corporate leaders. They must be written in a specific way... Finally, sixth, you must interview. Some schools require an interview of all candidates while most only interview those candidates in which they are interested. Each aspect of an MBA application must be carefully crafted and soundly reasoned. All aspects must portray a candidate's branding and position that candidate to the school based on that branding and how it fits what the school seeks.
