The RISD 2015/2016 Undergraduate Application is now live so you can get started!
Our application deadlines for freshmen are November 1 for Early Decision and February 1 for Regular Decision. Even if you’re not ready to submit your application, you can get started on putting together the pieces.
Like most colleges, we will need to receive your transcripts, test scores, and a writing sample.
We also want to see your visual work. This visual work includes a portfolio of between 12 and 20 images of your work, plus two original drawings that you will fold up and send to us via snail mail.
When you’re putting together your portfolio, remember that you’re not applying to a major, but rather to our Experimental and Foundation Studies Program. We’ve always been able to grant our students their first choice of major, but in the beginning, we’re considering you for your fit to our first year program. Show us a broad range of work and media, and think about how your work might fit into the Foundation Program.
You can find the drawing assignments here along with our other application requirements. Keep in mind, when you’re drawing, that if you love the drawing, we probably will too. Think about what you love to draw and how you like to draw it, and then apply that to our assignments. These drawings are how we gain insight into your vision as an artist or designer, so approach them in a way that’s right for you.
As always, if you have questions or if you’re stressed out about any part of the application, please contact us.
