Are the optional essays such as "Why [insert school]" really optional? Or is it damaging to my application if I chose to omit the essay?
- Jennie Rothman expert Zari - the "why X" essay is optional, but why miss a chance to show a law school what you know about them and why you'd be a good fit there. The "Why X" essay is a chance to show off how well you've gotten to know the school through research and maybe even a visit, and help the admissions committee connect the dots as to how you'd fit in and contribute. If you are seriously interested in the school or your numbers are on the borderline, I'd strongly recommend writing this essay. Good luck!
- Christina Taber-Kewene expert I agree with @Jennie that these essays are really important, especially the "Why x school?"essay. Schools want to know that if they admit you, you'll accept. Do everything you can to show that you have done your research and are seriously interested in the school for specific articulable reasons, and you'll give yourself a real boost.
