Foundation program at UCL vs Purdue University
I was accepted by Purdue University to the regional campus. Also I am applying for foundation program in UCL.
After that program I want to apply to top universities.
What will be the best choice for me in order to transfer to the top university? Go to the foundation program or study in Purdue University, regional campus?
Hi, Madi. There are a couple of options to consider. Starting at a Purdue regional campus could be a good strategic move if you are prepared for a two-step process: beginning at the regional campus and then transferring to the main campus. From here you can begin the process of applying to top universities. Over the years, admission for transfer students has become increasingly more competitive, with some top universities accepting only a handful of transfer applicants(and sometimes none at all). The most important thing is that you must perform at Purdue. Here is a link for minimum transfer requirements: https://admissions.purdue.edu/apply/criteriatransfer.php, but you will need to perform well above these minimal standards. Top universities will really only consider transfer applicants who have stellar grades, and coming from the main campus will likely hold more weight than coming from one of the regional ones.
The other thing that you should be prepared to do is have a compelling argument for why you want to transfer to each particular university (other than it being a top university- this will not be enough), so this will require you to do your homework on the respective schools to which you'll be submitting applications. Additionally, you should look to get involved in extracurricular activities while at Purdue. This will help to send a clear message that you will be engaged once you transfer.
Alternatively, UCL could also be a good choice. The disadvantage of going this route is that it delays your US university experience, and if your ultimate goal is to study at a top US university, I would recommend taking steps to put you on that path sooner rather than later.
